From
blossoming to harvest
The Tonda Gentile Trilobata cultivation
is mainly spread in the hilly Alta
Langa area.
The blooming time is usually in January:
the male flower pollinates the tiny
red female flower thus giving birth
to the bracts.
These can contain
up to 5 nuts which fall to the ground
when they are ripe.
The harvest is carried out by means of suction machines which already clean
the nuts.
Then the hazelnuts are dried in the sun or in kilns and finally
stored in jute bags in cool dry places..
